Our Programs

Louis d' Almeida, Executive Director has said, "The kids love it, they do it well and it teaches them. It's not a classroom setting but they learn structure, discipline, teamwork and all the other things that will help make good solid citizens. Basketball is an activity that gives them real satisfaction; a rare commodity in their lives".

  • Weekend Development Program

To participate in The Gaucho program, boys and girls must live within the five boroughs of New York City and must be enrolled in school from September through June. Everyday after school and all weekend long several hundred boys and girls come to the Gauchos gym where they are taught the fundamentals of basketball, participate in team workouts, and have fun. The Gauchos Gym is open seven days a week except for major national and religious holidays. The Gauchos program serves 500 kids annually through its travel team programs and with its Weekend Development program. Annual membership fee is $300.
  • Tryouts

During its long history, the Gauchos program has earned an excellent reputation with high school and college coaches and most importantly, with young people. They know that Gauchos players play with the best and many Gauchos players have gone on to college by way of athletic scholarships. The annual Gauchos Round Ball Classic Tournament serves as an important recruitment tool for the organization. Semiannual try-outs are held in the gym during the months of March and November.
